MSA Clubs & Societies supports, funds and resources over 100 clubs on campus. Each of our currently affiliated clubs have been established to advance the education of students at Monash Clayton, adding value to the student cultue and experience in their own unique way. Applying to become a new club isn't just about having a great idea, it's a process that takes nearly a whole semester. But don't worry, if you and your fellow students are passionate and dedicated, C&S is here to help.
The C&S New Club Application Period opens in Week 0 of each semester and is only available for a short amount of time. To ensure a fair and equal process for all, it is the C&S policy that any discussions about new club ideas and applications, including the process of submission, are held at the beginning of each semester only. Applications can only be collected and submitted in accordance with the below timelines.
With a large number of applications being submitted each semester, an understanding of the important timelines below is crucial. If you're interested take a look at the New Club Checklist and become familiar with the C&S Affiliation Regulations.
Semester 1, 2026 New Club Application Period
Collection of Application Form: available during Week 0 and Week 1 of Semester 1, 2026 ONLY - Monday 23 February - Friday 6 March 2026

Submission of Application Form: available during Week 2 of Semester 1 2026 ONLY - Monday 9 - Friday 13 March 2026
Only those groups that collected an Application Form in Week 0 or Week 1 will be able to make an appointment to submit.
Remember: if contact is made outside of the above application period C&S cannot discuss your idea in detail. We can only provide very minimal information / feedback regarding the process and will encourage groups to make contact again when the next application period opens.
New Club Checklist
We know you're excited to start building an incredible new club. But first there are a few things to check off the list.
- Are you eligible? Only students enrolled in courses administered at the Clayton campus can apply to start a new club. Students based at other Monash campuses are ineligible. Check your WES for more info.
- Is your idea unique? If your new club or its activities are similar to an existing club/society or MSA Department, the application may not progress. Take a look at those clubs that are already part of the C&S family here or find out more about the MSA Departments on offer here.
- Have you read the C&S Affiliation Regulations? There's a range of criteria set out in the Affiliation Regulations including the requirement that a new club must not breach any provision of the C&S or MSA constitution, it must not be purely social or commercial in nature, and the group must benefit Monash Clayton students. Make sure you are familiar with them all.
- Do you have other Clayton students that are interested? To submit an application to start a new club there must be four Clayton enrolled students who are equally passionate about the idea and are willing to be part of the Applicant Group. And it's important to check that everyone is an MSA+ member.
What Happens Now?
Step 1: Collect an Application Form
Make an appointment to speak with the C&S Development Officer and collect an application form. This is your opportunity to ask questions, get important feedback about your new club idea and find out more about the application process.
Remember, the application forms are only available between Week 0 and Week 1 of each semester so don't delay.
To make an appointment with the C&S Development Officer visit https://calendly.com/alison-robins.
Step 2: Submit an Application Form
With applications and all of the supporting materials only accepted during Week 2 of each semester, all four members of the Applicant Group must be present at the same time to submit the documents. An appointment must be made with the C&S Development Officer.
Step 3: Wait for Outcome
Once the application has been lodged it's time for the C&S Executive to review and assess all submissions. They will make the final decisions on which applications are progressing to Part 2 of this semester-long application process.
Starting a new club is a big task, but once affiliated day-to-day support is available via the C&S Staff and Executive. If your group is interested, you're encouraged to make contact with the C&S Development Officer from the beginning of each semester only to discuss your options and the formal application process further.
