Monash University Choral Society (MonUCS) is a welcoming non-auditioned community of choristers who make participating in high-level choral performance accessible and possible for anyone interested! One of the oldest student-run clubs at Monash University, MonUCS aims to perform two concerts each year, with pieces ranging from Vivaldi’s Gloria to Pure Imagination from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This gives the community an opportunity to experience a diverse range of choral repertoire, as well as being a lot of fun for everyone involved. MonUCS’ members annually participate in Intervarsity Choral Festivals (and in fact helped found them back in 1968!), frequently performing with state symphony orchestras. Over its 60 year history, MonUCS has developed a solid reputation in the musical community in Melbourne. The choir has been invited to perform with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Monash Music Department and the touring Hong Kong Baptist University choir. In addition to MonUCS’ strong music culture, the choir is a very social group. Meetups at Pixel Cafe and Bar follow the conclusion of the weekly rehearsals, with choristers socialising and at times exhibiting random outbursts of singing. An annual dinner, movie nights, rehearsal camps and post-concert parties provide even more opportunities for new members to get to know everyone!
